Château Lafite Rothschild
Undeniably one of the best estates in Bordeaux, Lafite was ranked at the top of the 1855 Classification and still deserves that spot today. Now under the fifth generation of Rothschilds, the estate has an illustrious history, being the favourite of kings and prime ministers alike, all admiring the wines for their hallmark combination of elegance and finesse with durability and ageability. The 112-hectares of vines are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%) Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%), with an average vine age of 45 years. The oldest plot, “La Gravière”, dates back to 1886! The estate is run by a team overseen by Technical Director Eric Kohler, who has worked with Lafite for over 25 years. He continues the tradition of minimal intervention in the vineyards and measured winemaking in the cellar. After fermentation and malolactic fermentation in oak vats, the wines are aged in new oak barriques, produced at the estate, for 18-20 months before bottling.
