Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné
A century before the introduction of the A.O.C system, Antoine Jaboulet began to transform an unknown region into one of the most important winegrowing terroirs in the world. His hard work paid off significantly, with Paul Jaboulet Aîné becoming the benchmark of the Northern Rhône, and their iconic Hermitage ‘La Chapelle’ producing some of the greatest wines in history. Named after the small hermit's chapel built in 1235 on the Hermitage hill, the wine regularly rivals Bordeaux 1st Growths for its incredible array of flavours. Nowadays, the winery is led by the oenologist Caroline Frey, whose family purchased the winery 2006. The wines are produced with a view to not only preserve but enhance the soils. Farming follows organic and biodynamic principles, with all the vineyards—120 hectares in total—carrying certification. In the cellar, innovation is balanced with tradition and nuance, producing wines that are respectful of the typicity of their terroir.
